Any type of vacuum pumps are prone to process contamination like solvents traces, acids, alkalis, oil mist, dust, water traces from processes done under Vacuum.
Dust, oil & other process contaminants contaminate vacuum pumps and effect pumps performance in terms of vacuum level, pumping capacity & requires heavy maintenance along with periodical oil replacements. Moreover there are invisible process losses & disposal of contaminants are environment issues.

Manufacturers address this issue in many ways by deploying high energy cost water ring/water jet vacuum pumps or low efficient steam jet ejector vacuum pumps. These vacuum pumps can work rugged in contaminated processes but with high energy costs and they tend to leave effluent as a liability at end of the process.
